660 Paranaque fire victims get support from local government

Despite the gloomy weather yesterday, Saturday, the local government of Parañaque continues to provide assistance to residents affected by the fire incident at Hontiveros Compound on May 18.

Mayor Eric L. Olivarez and District 1 Congressman Edwin L. Olivarez revisited the 660 families, comprising 1,985 individuals, who were displaced and currently taking shelter at the Area 1 Covered Court in Fourth Estate Subdivision and San Antonio National High School.

During their visit, the two officials personally handed out essential aid. The assistance provided to the affected residents included clothing, blankets, mats, food packs, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits.

The City Social Welfare and Development Department, under the leadership of Ms. Vivian Gabriel, the General Services Office headed by Ms. Josephine Mary Centena, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development - National Capital Region coordinated to deliver the aid to the affected families.

The local government also distributed additional tents for families that experienced further hardship due to heavy rainfall yesterday morning.

Moreover, Mayor Eric and Congressman Edwin extended financial assistance to each family. Mayor Eric expressed his condolences to the affected residents and assured them that the local government of Parañaque would continue to support and assist them in their recovery from the tragic incident.

The 660 families will also receive additional financial assistance through the City Social Amelioration Program of the CSWDD and the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the DSWD-NCR, with the support of Congressman Edwin's office.

Contributing to the distribution of aid were the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, under Dr. Teodoro Gonzales Jr., the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, headed by OIC Mr. Mark Allen Besa, and the Special Services Office, under the guidance of Ms. Majel Co. Present during the distribution were Barangay San Antonio officials led by Barangay Chairman Leopoldo "Pol" Casale, and District 2 City Councilor Beng Amurao.

As the affected families strive to rebuild their lives, the collective efforts of the local government and various offices aim to provide them with the necessary support and assistance, emphasizing the city's commitment to its residents in times of adversity.
