Parañaque participates in earthquake drill
The local government of Parañaque, under the leadership of Mayor Eric L. Olivarez, actively participated in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held this afternoon at the Parañaque City Hall. Hundreds of government employees participated in the simulation drill and evacuation exercises, including the participants of the GAD Plan and Budget formulation who joined in the "duck, cover, and hold" procedures. The earthquake drill is a crucial part of preparing for a possible strong earthquake, known as the Big One, in case it hits the country.
The activity was conducted under the National Disaster Risk Management Council, in partnership with the Office of the Civil Defense and the Parañaque City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office led by Dr. Teodoro B. Gonzalez Jr. The drill aimed to raise awareness and preparedness in response to a possible earthquake disaster. It also served as an opportunity for the government to assess and improve its existing disaster management plans and protocols.
Mayor Olivarez emphasized the importance of conducting regular earthquake drills, stating that it is essential to be always prepared for natural disasters. He added that the local government of Parañaque is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, and that they will continue to improve and enhance their disaster management plans to better respond to emergencies.
The nationwide earthquake drill is an annual event held in various parts of the country to simulate the occurrence of a strong earthquake and assess the level of preparedness of the government and the public. The government encourages everyone to take part in this activity and to always be prepared for any eventuality, especially in times of natural disasters.
