Paranaque supports online classes during transport strike
The local government of Parañaque, together with the Department of Education Schools Division of Parañaque, announced today that public and private schools in the city are ready to implement online classes as a response to the impending strike of jeepney and UV Express drivers starting on Monday. According to Mayor Eric L. Olivarez, public and private schools will conduct online classes as an alternative learning modality if students from daycare to college levels are unable to attend school due to the strike.
"We will implement the Alternative Delivery Mode of education in partnership with the DepEd Schools Division of Parañaque led by Dr. Evangeline Ladines starting Monday, March 6, until Friday, March 10," said the mayor. However, Mayor Eric clarified that if the strike ends earlier, students and teachers will immediately return to face-to-face classes.
He also revealed that the local government is ready to respond to the strike by deploying vehicles that will provide free rides on major roads, as well as lifting the color coding during the strike. Another reason for the preparation of online and modular classes in schools is the water shortage in nine barangays of Parañaque City for three days starting on Sunday, March 5.
According to the mayor, the residents of the city are the most affected by the water service interruption by Maynilad from March 5 to March 7 to give way to leak repair activity in Makati City. Mayor Eric added that the schools will implement asynchronous and synchronous classes in accordance with DepEd guidelines, where students will continue their studies in their homes and attend classes using online platforms and complete their assignments through modules and other means.
