Parañaque honors SEA Games champions
Mayor Eric L. Olivarez spearheaded an awarding ceremony this morning to recognize and honor the young athletes from Parañaque City who participated and achieved remarkable success at the recently concluded 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia, held from May 5 to 17, 2023.
Among the esteemed awardees were Joseph Chua, who secured a bronze medal in the Men's Taekwondo - 63kg category, Inaki Lorbes, who clinched a gold medal in the Mixed Relay Team Aquathlon, and Sakura Alforte, who also claimed a gold medal in the Women's Individual Kata event in Karate. These exceptional athletes are all proud representatives of Parañaque City.
Mayor Eric expressed his warm congratulations to the athletes and emphasized the local government's continuous commitment to support and uplift young athletes. As a former athlete in the field of tennis, Mayor Eric underscored the importance of sports in strengthening discipline, perseverance, and overall well-being, qualities that can be applied beyond the realm of sports.
Joining Mayor Eric in recognizing the young athletes were First Lady Ate Aileen Claire Olivarez, District 1 City Councilor Toki Baes, City Administrator Atty. Voltaire Dela Cruz, Officer-in-Charge of the Youth and Sports Development Office Mr. Alexander Dandan, and Ospital ng Parañaque II Hospital Director Dr. Patrick Cruz.
The awarding ceremony showcased the city's pride in the achievements of its talented youth and served as a testament to the collective efforts of the athletes, their coaches, and the local government's support system. These exceptional athletes serve as inspirations to their peers, embodying the spirit of perseverance, determination, and sportsmanship.
